THE TRUTH, THE FACT, AND MYTH OF 'NO JOBS OUT THERE F0R GRADUATES'

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) latest result stated that 'Nigeria Unemployment rate is 13.9% compare to Djibouti's 50% (highest in the world) and Qatar's 0.1% (the lowest in the world)'.

A research conducted by Asuquo and Agboola, 2014 published in American Journal of Educational Research titled ''Nigerian Universities outputs and their employability in the labour market in South - South Nigeria'' also butressed the fact, quoted ''Employability of Nigerian Universities output based on the responses of their employers was significantly below average''. The researchers argued the University curriculum should be ameliorated to make its graduates employable, meaning all graduates need to graduate with qualifications 'Beyond School Certificate, BSC' and not just the graphic designed paper students strive for.
It is no news again that the job most graduates do after graduation is during their NYSC before the drought of employment. In our great country 'the giant of Africa', our David is corruption. '5,000 naira would be paid to all unemployed graduates' - the most stupid promise I have ever heard. It means the country is more than ready to be producing more unemployed graduates. 'Let them go to school paying exorbitant fees (as in most state universities), then we compensate them with 5,000 naira' idiosyncrasy it looks to me.

In case you don't know, youth unemployment rate has increased from 24% to 25% in 2016, the Labour force only increased by 1% and employment rate by 0.6%. Unemployed graduates is estimated at 45.72%: a result of survey conducted on Jobberman.

It is true, there are thousands of facts and testimonies that there is no job out there for graduates. Graduates still get employed and to those who get employed, no job out there is a myth to them - they don't believe it.  39% of Nigeria's middle class are self - employed and this group consist of about 31% graduates.
It is any graduates choice to choose to wait till the government do something about unemployment; continue seeking for employment; or create employment. It is not impossible with a country of population of ours. There is more than enough market for any product or service you are willing to render. Bill Gate on his social media said this about Africa ''I see Africa as a cup half-filled''. There are still many opportunities not yet explored in Africa. This is the right time to execute that business idea of yours. Many successful businesses of today were started during recession, Microsoft is one of them - Bill Gate founded is business during recession.
To those who are not shaped for the entrepreneurer world; looking for employment might be your best shot. All employers want to employ 'YOU' and not your certificate. Since you would be the one being paid and not your certificate. True! Employers always request for certificate, and do you know why? They don't know you beforehand. Your CV gives them a summary of who you are; note: 'not a summary of what you studied'. Did you studied any special course in your Primary or Secondary  schools? Of course no! But it is included in your CV. Also the cliche in CV wrting 'good interpersonal skills', it was not studied in any school - it was included to show the employer what their future employee possess.
There is always work for those who are ready to work but none for those who want to work. If you are wondering why you are still unemployed, that is your answer 'You want to work and not ready to work'. It is the same as the situation you are currently in now, everybody wants to get married (I know you are included) but not everyone is ready to get married (are you?).
All employable graduates always have something aside certificate. No certificate will get anybody employed. Having connections to get link for a job even before finishing school is part of something aside your certificate. The connection got the employment and not the certificate.
Fresh graduates are on safer side, they would be looked as new graduates  waiting for service - will know parents and neighbours true color after NYSC and still has no job. So what are you doing with your break before NYSC? Still want to come back home and sit with your parents? You deserve better than that, make yourself employable during this time. Learn something new.
