Don't risk it, just do it

“To succeed, you have to take a risk. Get out of your comfort zone,” I heard or read in more than one place, can’t remember. Hey! It is true, you have to go out of your comfort zone but never risk it; rather do it. That sounds weird? Of course, I know. The word risk always scares us, but the word DO doesn’t, we rather procrastinate. To attain anything in life, you have to do things you are not really comfortable with. Nothing different is attained with same. What is expected is always the result. There is nothing intriguing as an adventure; it is full of surprises. Doing things, you have never done before is like an adventure, it enables you for a lot and great surprises. This is not a book theory, it is rather an excerpt from my life and that of others I have studied. But let me really warn you again, never risk anything; consider it as something you are doing. Expect something different from planned. Recently, I had to resume an internship I applied for, in a state vir

Redefining your Academic Excellence by FOLARIN OLUWASAYO

History cannot forget some names; these people worked when others slept, and they kept pushing when others sing the impossibility chorus. You can say they are lucky but it is crystal clear they had their challenges too even if not greater than yours but they never gave up. One of these people is Albert Einstein - the father of modern physics. Albert couldn’t speak fluently till he was nine years old, and he was denied admission at Swiss Federal Polytechnic in Zürich, he failed to meet the requirements. Albert, the young boy that couldn’t speak fluently later lectured in renowned institutions around the world. Michael Dell, the founder of Dell Inc., gained admission to study Medicine at the University of Texas. In his dorm, he started selling upgraded kits for personal computers. Apparently, school was not giving him enough ample time to focus on his business, he dropped out to continue his business and 12 years later, this decision made him a billionaire. In 1992, aged 27, he became

New Year Agenda

What says your time? What is today’s date? I am sure this is not the first time you are seeing that time. But this is the first time you are seeing the date – it comes once and never returns. What makes each day distinct is not the time, rather the date. A clock is a machine that repeats its day activity irrespective of the date. It never changes. The only thing permanent is change – I am telling you now with great assurance that the only thing permanent is the clock routine. Only one way leads to its door. Date is an event that occur once and never repeats itself irrespective of who demand for its repetition. Date is a friend of no one. Time could always be manipulated; you can delay a meeting of 2 o’ Clock till 3 o’ Clock (African time). Date can’t be delayed – no wonder there is nothing like African date. A lot of people live their life in accordance to the clock believing they are keeping to time. Life of a clock is simply running different race the same way. Its ha

How to Handle Regrets

Regret is part of life. It is an evidence that you exist; an evidence that you are truly human. It signifies that you have conscience. And no human, no matter how brutal they might be is without conscience. Conscience can never be killed; it can only be suppressed. Cogito ergo sum – Rene Descartes Translation: I think therefore I am Conscience is our silent soul but the number one  noise maker in the class of integrity – Trivalence There are two kingdoms of regrets, depending on the way the regret is being handled: 1.        Hell of regret and 2.        Heaven of regret. HELL OF REGRET This is the kingdom of regret most people find themselves. Its population and predicted future immigrant exceed that of regrets heaven by more than 1000%. Folks in this kingdom have no reason of being thankful for those things that got them there in the first place. They are the best candidate to vie for the post of the President of suicide nation. No wonder the high rate of sui

Hibernation and Active State

To hibernate simply means to be inactive for some period of time due to certain factors. In life, to succeed you must learn to hibernate; not just to hibernate but know when to. A fish never hibernates in the raining season - mud fish know the dry season is the right time to get deep into the mud to hibernate. Whenever you generate a great idea you would like to execute, don't dash straight to its execution; get hibernated. At this time, even your friends might think you are unserious. But this is the time for you to strategize. One of my mentors Mark Cuban illustrated one of this hibernation scenario ''...Nothing  but  the  best  as  I prepared  for  my journey into  entrepreneurial  territory  again. I  could  say I was  preoccupied  with how  to  get  my new business  off  the  ground,  that  while  my friends  got  drunk,  did stupid  tourist  tricks  and  ate  at  greasy spoons,  I sat  by the pool  on the  one  chaise  longue  chair  with rust  on the  clean side

3 & 1: Goal, Success, and Achievement

The three looks alike but they are distinct. The question is which is most important. In my blog post how to produce many , I differentiated success and achievement. No game technique is called success or achievement; the only have seen is goal in soccer. Success and achievement are just a grading system; goal is the main thing. Others are win, victory, failure, attempt, and almost. People don’t go out to watch their team win a game, they only go out to watch the match and desire to win. Their team goes out to play the game with the desire or determination to win. Without the game, there can never be a desire or determination. Goal is the game, success and achievement are the results. Before success and achievement. There is always the goal. And after success and achievement there will always be the goal. Success and Achievement are just a trophy while the rest such as failure and almost are the sanctions. They train you to know how to always win the trophy. Never be discoura

Producing Many

Productivity is the measure of products turn out. All human beings are production machine and their achievement/success is the measure of the total number of life they impacted in their lifetime. All rich men or savvy entrepreneurs as I like to refer them found a problem and provided the solution; thus paid for finding solution to such problem. There is no rule of nothing for something in life. Nature is a great and wise negotiator. You only win a contract you worth and not the one you wish. To know a true leader, check out his/her successor. If the successor is worse, then you have your answer, you have just discovered another manager, not a leader. Managers never allow a better person to succeed them; leaders build better successor to succeed them. Until you start producing better people than yourself; success is inachievable. There is a difference between success and achievement. Achievement is meeting the goal – success is joyously reaching the goal and being happy afterwar

5 Minutes Mistakes

A lot of mistakes could be avoided if the future consequences is being considered. I was rushing home one day and was feeling like releasing my excretory system of the fecal matter in my anus. The more I run to get home faster, the more the agony of this need increases. It got to a point I thought of finding a bush to ease myself, then something occurred to me - five minutes mistake, a lifetime regret. What if in the process of doing so, someone I know passes by, or a girl I have been wooing saw me in this silly act? Come on, you need to get home to do this. And this pain will be a story someday. Of course, it did became a story; I just shared it with you! Five minutes mistakes are mistakes that happened within the duration of 5 minutes, it can be lesser but never more than that. And of course, all mistakes happen within this time frame. What did you regret most in your life? What did you wish you had done that you still regret not doing? Things you wish you had never done

5 Tips to Overcome Life’s Challenges

Image
We are constantly faced with challenges such as passing an exam or reviving a collapse business. One thing is certain in these circumstances; we are left with choices to embrace, yes choices– to give up or to overcome. This article entails strategies you can use to tackle and overcome any critical challenge you might face in life. 1. Assess the challenge Many people make the mistake of trying to solve a challenge without critically assessing it to know the reasons of its occurence, assuming the right solution for the wrong problem. But unfortunately, this will result into unfruitful effort with wasted resources. Next time you are bashed with life’s challenging circumstances, assess the challenge to see what caused it using the root cause analysis approach where you list out factors that contributed to such challenge to identify its real cause, this will guide you in mapping out the right strategy to overcome the challenge. 2. Map out your strategy Direction per time is es

Talent: How to identify; build and make money with your talent.

The only way to improve and be better ready for the future you desire is doing the right things without waiting for applause. If people see you, great! What if nobody notices? There is no fulfilment like knowing you did the right thing and if you are to do it again, will do it the same way. I once watched a movie the hero asked his antagonist ''What will you do if you are to do something to save the world without anybody noticing; without anyone knowing of what you did?'' A tough question it is: everybody wants to do something to attract the limelight. Public respect is what we all crave for; mind you, there are times we need to go against the norm. Fine, we would be vulnerable to criticism but if you don't take that step nobody would. In everyone's hand is a solution to a particular problem. That is why you were created; that is why you were born! But only few of us get to provide the solution to the problem we are destined to solve - reason for the exis

Optimism Explored

One characteristic of successful people and enterpreneurs that has been expressed in more than one words is OPTIMISM . What is Optimism? What are the things people confused it for? When is it stupid to be optimistic? To answer these questions, it would take writing a book to do so. Don't fret, all you need to know is in this blog if you could take your time to read through. What is Optimism? Optimism is having a state of mind or believe that you would surely get and achieve what you are expecting and pursuing. Pessimism unlike Optimism is doubting the chances of achieving or getting what you are expecting or pursuing. What Optimism is not! Optimism is not evil-wish. Evil-wish is expectation of the impossible. What of Miracle? Miracle is the occurence of what you didn't expect, not what is impossible. If it is impossible, I believe it wouldn't have happened. When I was a boy, I and my friends would fantasize and shmooze on how we would spend a Million Naira

STAYING POSITIVE: FAILURE IS A BLESSING by FOLARIN OLUWASAYO

The accomplishment you gain in life is a factor of your perspective of sequence of events that happens in your life. Many prepare so much for success without considering that it is not a bequest, and no matter how meticulous you can be, there will always be a point which you would think you could you have done better. Failure is an element of life but you can choose if it should exist in your vocabulary of life through the spectrum you view situations. Unfortunately, humans don’t have the ability to rewind the hands of time and undo the very things that made them cry. There is opportunity in every disappointment and as Homo sapiens we are always left with choices to embrace.  Having the right mind set is not just a panacea to success but it is a conscious effort to see that failure is a blessing awaiting to be unveiled. TURNING FAILURE INTO SUCCESS? Have you really thought about other people who have experienced similar situation you are facing today? Thomas Edison tried 999 times be

Only Learn this from your role Models and Mentors

In any sphere of life anybody wants to break into, there are always role models and mentors to emulate and learn from; need for and how to search for one is innate. A child would crawl to pick things himself as it sees others do, would want to walk to be like the rest around him, and talk as he sees them do. A child born of a deaf mother is ensure to be raised in a community of people who can speak, for him/her to be able to speak - everybody needs a role model and mentor - lad and lass are not exempted. ''What would you like to study?'' I asked a boy attending JAMB tutorial. ''Food technology'' he replied. I was surprised, but been aware of what makes a lot of students choose the course they are studying, I asked ''You have someone who is studying/studied the course?'' He replied affirmative. ''The person is like a mentor and role model to you?'' He nodded in agreement. Eveybody needs a role model and mentor as a guid

How to Achieve success Irrespective of your background or challenges by Folarin Oluwasayo

Enough of deceit! Success is no one's my birth right. There are rich people who became poor and poor people who became rich. The better side of the table is where everyone prays to be sitted when the table turns. There is a long existing adage which is a common say among religious faithful, 'that success is the right of everyone'   ̶  and that is the ideal - so let us face the reality. Although, I am still pretty young but my existence in life has been shaped by personal experiences, biography, autobiography and recorded interview of highly successful individuals, which made me realize that success is to be earned through consistent, deliberate and rigorous hard work. The decision to pay the price is solemnly your responsibility and intelligent property. Success itself is a prize; needful to say, I believe in the existence of luck but I don’t wait for it to present itself. Success is hinged on the ability to perceive the future, and to work towards it in the most efficient

THE TRUTH, THE FACT, AND MYTH OF 'NO JOBS OUT THERE F0R GRADUATES'

Image
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) latest result stated that ' Nigeria Unemployment rate is 13.9% compare to Djibouti's 50% (highest in the world) and Qatar's 0.1% (the lowest in the world) '. A research conducted by Asuquo and Agboola, 2014 published in American Journal of Educational Research titled ''Nigerian Universities outputs and their employability in the labour market in South - South Nigeria'' also butressed the fact, quoted ''Employability of Nigerian Universities output based on the responses of their employers was significantly below average''. The researchers argued the University curriculum should be ameliorated to make its graduates employable, meaning all graduates need to graduate with qualifications 'Beyond School Certificate, BSC' and not just the graphic designed paper students strive for. It is no news again that the job most graduates do after graduation is during their NYSC before the drought
